5 EHL Bachelor Students raise 3'000 CHF for Humanitarian Organization Sahana Sri Lanka

On May 29th, five final-year EHL Bachelor students participated in the Night Marathon of Luxembourg. Running a combined total of over 60 kilometres, Victoria Andriantsitohaina, Angele Goguely, Chalana Perera, Audrey Shiu and Alix Waldis were looking for more than just a physical challenge.

They were running to raise awareness and funds for Sahana Sri Lanka, an association aiming to enhance the quality of education in rural areas of Sri Lanka. The association was founded in 2004 by EHL Aumna Indira Kithsiri.

For each kilometer run, sponsors donated money.  After 10 days of intense campaigning via family, friends and the EHL community, the group of students along with several other final-year students raised nearly 3'000 Swiss francs for the association.

The sum will be used to fund 20 full-year scholarships for talented students at the Mallika School who are at risk of not being able to continue with their education because of financial difficulties.  Beneficiaries will be selected based on academic achievements, financial need, proactive behavior and their willingness to give back to society.

Through the association, a new computer training center opened its doors this April at the Mallika School in Hinduma, a rural village located in southern Sri Lanka.  The center now provides children with additional learning opportunities and greater access to knowledge and information, which will help raise academic achievement levels in the area.

The EHL students felt that their efforts were small, yet hoped the impact would be big for the talented, deserving children of Sri Lanka.

The project team would like to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation towards everyone in the EHL community for their kind and thoughtful donations.
